If its any consolation, Chaz, many commentators feel that after a declining rate of increase, the population of the world will plateau out, and then begin to decline. Check out, for example:

Of course, this may not be in our lifetime, and we will probably have to endure all of the stressors associated with continuing growth. However, I firmly believe that this issue cannot be viewed in isolation from the type of society we live in, and that therefore, focus ought to fall on the latter rather than simply looking ways of curtailing population growth

The presentation was as childish as it appears.
When will enough be more than enough.
I woud say that this number has been reached long ago. We have reached a point when you have to say what is the point of killing the wilderness for more and more people. What good are they? Millions of children die every year from lack of clean water. How many more hectares of land are going to go under the plough, forests dug up and wild animals go extinct?
We might all be able to fit into Texas but seriously how much land and other resources would be required to sustain that population in any kind of standard of living. Billions live in poverty- do we really need billions more to suffer?

I have long held the view that the planet is not overpopulated. With proper organisation we can distribute ourselves over the planet to where we are needed in order to properly look after it. We might then find that it is underpopulated not overpopulated.

Cheers,

Bob
